  • Scientists capture world's first images of baby coelacanth fish
Scientists have captured the world's first images of a baby coelacanth - an extremely rare type of fish known as a 'living fossil'.

Japanese marine researchers have found and successfully filmed the young fish at a depth of 528ft in Manado Bay off Sulawesi Island, Indonesia.

Video footage shows the 12.6-inch coelacanth, coloured blue with white spots, swimming slowly among rocks on the seabed for about 20 minutes.

As far as we know, it was the first ever video image of a living juvenile coelacanth, which is still shrouded in mystery,' said Masamitsu Iwata, a researcher at Aquamarine Fukushima in Iwaki, northeast of Tokyo.
Scientists hope the discovery will shed light on the habitat and breeding habits of coelacanths.

The researchers used a remotely operated, self-propelled vehicle to film the coelacanth, which appeared to be newly born, Iwata said.

A similar-sized juvenile was once discovered in the belly of a pregnant coelacanth. It is believed that their eggs hatch inside the female and the young fish are fully formed at the time of birth.

Coelacanths are commonly regarded as having evolved little from prehistoric times and were thought to be extinct until a living specimen was discovered in 1938 off the coast of southern Africa.

  • Detroit Red Wings The Detroit Red Wings were embroiled in a tough playoff series with the Anaheim Ducks last spring and needed a clutch goal on home ice to win Game 7 and avoid getting upset.
Detroit looks to continue its home dominance of Anaheim on Saturday night when the teams meet for the first time this season.
The Detroit Red Wing (9-5-3) lost in seven games to Pittsburgh in the Stanley Cup finals last June after winning it the previous year.
One of the team’s second-seeded Detroit eliminated to reach the finals was eighth-seeded Anaheim (6-8-3) and it took bitter semifinals series stretched to its maximum to determine the winner.
That series included five games that were decided by one goal with Dan Cleary's score with 3 minutes to play in Game 7 securing a 4-3 win and a third consecutive trip to the conference finals for the Red Wings.
Detroit struggled at the start of this season, going 3-4-2 before turning things around with a 6-1-1 stretch after beating Vancouver 3-1 on Thursday. That came a night after a 9-1 victory at Columbus, a Central rival along with Chicago which is challenging the Wings' run of eight consecutive division titles.
"We aren't winning games in the same fashion that we used to, that's pretty obvious," coach Mike Babcock said. A visit by the Ducks could help the Red Wings continue their strong play. They're 24-3-0 with three ties against them all-time during the regular season at Joe Louis Arena.
Osgood is 6-3-2 with 2.77 goals-against average and a shutout, while posting a 14-2-0 mark with a tie and a 2.48 GAA in 17 games, including six in the postseason, against the Ducks. If Osgood is unable to play, Jimmy Howard would face Anaheim for the first time.
Howard won the last two games while stopping 56 of 58 shots, improving to 3-2-1 with a 2.66 GAA in seven appearances.
The Ducks dropped to 0-1-1 on a four-game trip after falling 3-2 in a shootout at Columbus on Friday.
"We are desperate for a win on the road," Coach Randy Carlyle said. "I didn't think we played that poor a hockey game. It's not easy to win on the road."
While Anaheim is struggling, Corey Perry has been one of the few bright spots. The right wing ranks among the league leaders with 12 goals and 21 points, failing to record a point in only three games.
Perry, though, has just three goals and five assists in 15 games against the Red Wings. Todd Merchant scored his second goal of the season Friday. The veteran center came up big in the playoffs against Detroit last spring, scoring in the third overtime to clinch a 4-3 win at Joe Louis in Game 2.

  • Buffalo Wild Wings The Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant at the Atlantic Terminal mall had been trying for three weeks to address growing crowds of kids coming out for the Tuesday night 50-cent wings special, a top executive said in a telephone interview today.

But a confluence of forces — the restaurant’s location in a major transportation hub, the ability of social networking to rally people, and the interest of a large number of kids wanting to gather on the night before a school holiday — all combined to set the stage for the violence that broke out later that night in nearby Fort Greene, he said.

“It’s sort of a perfect storm, it’s very unfortunate,” said Michael Mehiel, the chief operating officer for Four M Capital LLC, the New York area franchisee for the Buffalo Wild Wings chain.
Last night, Mr. Mehiel sent an e-mail announcing that the Flatbush Avenue restaurant’s Tuesday night Buffalo Wild Wings special will be indefinitely canceled. But in the interview, Mr. Mehiel said the restaurant’s bargain night was “used as a flag.”

Mr. Mehiel said the restaurant, and the Atlantic Terminal mall, had been ramping up its security in the weeks leading up to Tuesday night’s events. Since then, he said, there have been “zero instances of violence in the restaurant.”

However, the crowds continued to grow in the mall. He said the mall increased security, and the restaurant added a fifth guard. On Monday, after they picked up the chatter on social networking sites over the weekend, encouraging Brooklyn’s teenagers to come to Tuesday night’s special, they informed the 88th Precinct, he said.

On Tuesday, the NYPD sent “a large detail to the mall,” he said, but “unfortunately this incident occurred.” Three teenagers were shot in two separate incidents related to groups of roving teens, but none suffered life-threatening injuries. (88th Precinct detectives have asked for witnesses to come forward.)

Mr. Mehiel said there have been no other incident like this in any of the franchise’s other restaurants. But the Atlantic mall restaurant is unusual, he said, in that “it is in an enormous transportation hub. Capt. Anthony Tasso, commanding officer of the 88th Precinct, said Wednesday in an e-mail that, “None of the involved individuals were from Clinton Hill, Fort Greene.”

As for criticism of the restaurant by Council Member Letitia James, he said he is not interested in picking a fight with her.

  • 'Naked' scanner in airport trial According to a scanner that produces the "naked" images of passengers has begun on the airport in Manchester.

Authorities say speed up security checks before revealed no hidden weapons or explosives.

However, full-body scanners will also appear breast augmentation, piercings and a clear black and white outlines of the genitals of passengers.

The airport has insisted that the pictures are not pornographic and is immediately destroyed.

Sarah Barrett, director of customer experience at the airport, said most passengers do not like the traditional pat down "from the search.

At Terminal 2, Manchester Airport, which introduced the machine, passengers no longer need to pull their coats, shoes and belts, and go through security checks.

Ms Barrett said: "This scanner has completely removed the dispute to undress."

Ms Barrett said the black-and-white image, and will only be seen by an officer in a remote location before deleting.

"The images are not erotic or pornographic, and can not be stored or captured in any way," he said.

The passengers could refuse to be scanned, he added.

The scan costs £ 80,000 per. They work by transmitting electromagnetic waves to passengers when standing represented at a booth. A virtual three-dimensional image is then created from the reflected energy.

Ms Barrett said radiation has been "super safe".

She said: "The passengers can go through this machine is 5000 times per year to each without looking back. The amount of transmitted radiation is making very small."

The Transportation Department will decide whether permanently installed in a period of one year.

The scanner, made by Rapiscan Systems, has already been tried at Heathrow Airport between 2004 and 2008.

A spokesman for BAA Heathrow said that the technology was "very effective" and the airport operator was taking into account a possible further use in the future.

The scans will be rolled out gradually to the airports in the U.S., after use in Los Angeles and New York.

  • Indonesian Super League Ready To Become One Of Asia's Biggest - Asian Debate
Indonesia Super League this season and expects a new Asia editor John Duerden wonders how far one can go forward ...

    October 12, 2009 2:57:52
    2. October was the date "batik in Indonesia. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono urged his countrymen to take the dress to remember the day when UNESCO officially his handmade shirts representative list of intangible heritage of humanity.

Given the disputes with Malaysia, to which countries could make a claim on his shirt, looked as if the whole of Jakarta had responded to the request and on a street where they were greeted by a group of batik.
Also in force at the offices of PSSI, Indonesian Football Association. The Board of Directors in the life of the bowels of the Soviet-designed Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, and his house is a maze of brown and beige (not as colorful as the batik), large offices, small nooks and crannies.

Compared with some of the office bright and fresh that some of the partnerships in Asia to call home, the place a little dated, but the fact appears that the curve fits follow corridors of one of the best football fields in Asia, an authentic atmosphere, not easily found elsewhere.

The same applies to the passion that Indonesia has for the beautiful game and before the new season began to come true last weekend, it's a real sense that football in the vast archipelago's people.

Indonesia Super League has not only the one to watch in Southeast Asia, is still the league's representative in the region and the space to play, despite the progress made by the leagues in Vietnam and Thailand.

Like most have in the region, Indonesia, a fan of football, but fans of Sumatra, Java and other countries are equally at home just a PSM Makassar like Manchester United. The rival league of the greats in the West - including the Series A, which is still very popular - and there is little to the snobbery of the national scene, which may exist elsewhere.

One such place is certainly fighting and football in Singapore these days in the shadow of the big neighbor to the south. S-League stars such as Noh Alam Shah and Alexander Duric have the short trip across the street from Singapore, attracted by the opportunity for a large number of people playing.

You are not alone, partly due to the fact that Indonesia will allow each team of three foreign players and two in Asia - the league is probably the most cosmopolitan city on the continent. Persija Jakarta has a pair of Singapore and Baihakki Khaizan Mustafic Fahruddin during Bandung have Persib Thailand goalkeeper Kosin Viwatchaichok Rangsan Hathairatanakool and compatriot.

These new players did not disappoint with an excellent first day of the season. More than 40,000 were in Balikpapan Bandung see Persib Persib 2-0 defeat. More than 50,000 watched Persija Jakarta Arema Malang 1-0.

It helps with the local authorities in silence, as satisfied with their work. Despite the lack of official data, the PSSI General Secretary Nugraha Beso assured me that the average attendance in the league than the traditional big leagues in Asia including South Korea, China, Saudi Arabia and Iran - just before Japan and maybe not for long.

There are still problems, of course, would not be a season of Indonesia, if all went well. Crowd problems raises its ugly head from time to time - that has the clubs are forced to play away from home in front of empty stadiums.

The teams have been known to walk out of the court, when decisions against them and the police are reluctant to get involved with the device as well. Elections last year, it was not possible, the authorities in Jakarta after month games, and games can change everything at any time - the season curtain raising, the Community Shield pulled out of the Bung Karno Gelora weeks past.

You can not write about football in Indonesia, not to mention the word c - even though the PSSI insist that corruption is declining.

However, with a growing realization among administrators, which is the interest of the league to build something.

If the costumes / batik can live up to their words of support have become the league in every way and make sure that the rule begins to be outside the field to equal the passion in him to Indonesia Super League could be the first Southeast Asia from the region .

  • OtoMagz flying car
This is a powerful solution for people who do not like traffic jams in big cities like Jakarta and Surabaya. A technology company in Woburn, Massachusetts, USA, manufactures flying cars in most of this year.

The Transition flying car has been named. In the U.S., goods to U.S. $ 170,000 (Rp 1.7 billion euros) was estimated to have already exhausted, but not ready yet occurred. The price is obviously too expensive for the few rich people in Indonesia to move taking into account the number of luxury cars in Jakarta. The transition could be two people. Its speed of about 185 kilometers per hour while flying in the air.

To lose weight requires removal preparation of approximately 520 meters, but only a few hundred meters to the landing. The changes in the type of fixed-to-flight mode can be performed simply by pressing a button in the cockpit.

Propeller, which is used if the flight mode on security, which is the key to fixed mode to use. To save it, do not need space for a hangar. Can be stored in the garage, because their wings can be folded.

With dimensions of 2.1 meters, 2 meters wide and 5.7 meters long when folded, the transition will be less than full-size SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade or Lincoln Navigator. However, one can ask for that vehicle. You need to have a pilot license if you want to buy it. Want to try?

  • (CNN) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9 struck in the Samoan Islands region Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9 struck in the Samoan Islands region Tuesday.

The temblor generated a nearly 10-foot (3-meter) tsunami -- measured from crest to trough -- according to preliminary data, said Chip McCreery, the director of the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach, Hawaii.

A tsunami warning was in effect for American Samoa, Samoa, Cook Islands, Tonga and Fiji, among others in the South Pacific archipelago, according to a bulletin from the center.

A tsunami watch was issued for islands farther from the epicenter, including Hawaii and Papua New Guinea. See a map of where the earthquake hit »

Officials were determining whether the tsunami could reach Hawaii, the center said.

The quake is not expected to generate a tsunami along the west coast of the United States or Canada, according to the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center.

Further details were not immediately available.

There were no immediate reports of damage.

The quake was recorded at 6:48 a.m. (1:28 p.m. ET) at a depth of about 7.4 miles (11.9 km), the USGS reported

At least 17 deaths were confirmed, said Dr. Salamo Laumoli, director of health services of American Samoa.

"Two or three villages have been badly damaged," he told CNN International.

An American Samoa homeland security official working at the island's emergency operations center told CNN that the death toll is expected to rise to at least 20.

The tsunami wave hit right in the middle of the harbor of Pogo Pogo, the capital, Cinta Brown said.

Water damage and infrastructure damage was reported throughout the island, she said.

The village of Leone was "sadly devastated," Brown said. "The wave came onshore and washed out people's homes."

The same happened on the hard-hit east and west sides of American Samoa, she said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, canceled tsunami watches and warnings about four hours after the earthquake hit. Video Watch report on end of tsunami warning »

Officials in American Samoa issued a clear call and were focusing on assessing the damage, Brown said.

The temblor, with a magnitude of 8.0, generated three separate tsunami waves, the largest of which measured 5.1 feet from sea level height, Vindell Hsu, a geophysicist with the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center told CNN. Preliminary data originally reported a larger tsunami.

The quake is not expected to generate a tsunami along the West Coast of the United States or Canada, according to the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center, though a tsunami advisory was put in place.

Reports of damage were still emerging, but a bulletin from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the waves "may have been destructive along coasts near the earthquake epicenter and could also be a threat to more distant coasts. Authorities should take appropriate action in response to this possibility."

The quake was recorded at about 6:48 a.m. at a depth of about 7.4 miles (11.9 km), the USGS reported. Early reports had the magnitude at 7.9, but the USGS upgraded that to 8.0 about two hours after the initial report.

Laumoli, the health services director for American Samoa, said the earthquake was so powerful he felt as though the earth might split.

"It was the largest earthquake I have ever felt," he said. Video Listen to Laumoli speak about the impact of the quake and tsunami »

    Brown agreed.

She was standing in a parking lot when the earthquake hit. She said it shook her sports utility vehicle left and right.

"You could hear the rattling of the metal" of a large chain link fence around the lot, Brown said.

"It shakes you because you know something else is coming," she said.

iReporter Genhall Manua Chen said authorities told people to head up Aloau Mountain during the tsunami warning. Cars lined up for evacuation, Chen said. His cousin, who lives in Pago Pago, the capital, said water went inside their store, breaking windows and causing a lot of damage.

After about an hour, officials said it was safe to return home, he said. source:

  • THE GIRL WITH X-RAY EYES

MIAMI, FL – A pretty teenager has stunned experts with her bizarre white eyes – which let her see through solid stone and metal!

Laura Castro, 14, was born normal but developed pure white eyes at the age of 10. The Miami, Fla., child has been studied by eye doctors and other experts, but none can explain what causes her rare condition.

“The doctors say they’re never seen anything like this,” said the child’s mother, divorcee Anabel Castro. “My daughter can see anywhere in daylight or in darkness, and she can easily see through solid objects. The doctors say she may have been hit on the head or exposed to chemicals or something.

“All I know is that this came on gradually and that as her brown eyes got lighter and lighter her vision got stronger and stronger.”

Scientists who have studied the X-ray girl anonymously confessed that she can see clearly through 4-inch thick concrete, a steel safe, solid rock walls and thick layers of wood, plastic and paper, including a telephone book!

Examination of her eyes reveals no striking differences other than the fact that the pupil and iris are completely white.

According to Mrs. Castro, Laura first began showing signs of her rare condition shortly after her 10th birthday in 2005. The little girl’s dark brown eyes turned golden color, then gradually faded to white.

“I was real worried and I took her to doctors but they all said Laura’s eyes were normal,” Mrs. Castro recalled. “Then she began seeing through things.

“She woke up one morning and she could see through her own body. She could see her own heart beating and she was screaming. That really scared us.” The panic wore off after a few months, Mrs. Castro says, when Laura adjusted to her new X-ray vision.

Since then, the child’s only complaint is that her schoolmates avoid her because of her looks. “I tell her that she is special and that one day she will be very famous,” Mrs. Castro says.

Doctors have yet to verify Mrs. Castro’s claims on her daughter’s abilities, however she provided Weekly World News reporters with the photo above of Laura being examined.

  • The worlds largest plane is the Antonov An-225 Myria
The Russian word ' Мрия ' incidentally means 'inspired dream' it is classed as a Strategic Air-lifter and was constructed by the Antonov Design Bureau in the Ukraine in 1988 as a derivative from the Antanov An124.

There were only two An-225 planes ever built, with their colossal size though, it must be said that you only need two !

The An-225 took its maiden flight on the 21st December 1988, whilst two of these planes were actually commissioned there is only one in operation with the registration UR-82060.

The An-225 is not a military plane and is therefore available for flying anyone's oversized cargo to anywhere in the the world. With a capacity of 550,000 lb in its cargo area or 440,000 lb carried on the upper fuselage (on the outside) the An-225 is certainly an airplane that's up to the job of ultra heavy haulage.

The plane was originally intended for use within the Russian space program to haul the Buran space shuttle orbiter from destination to destination, but due to the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990 much of the Russian Space program was cancelled along with any further development of the An-225.

The Specifications of the Antonov An-225 are quite impressive. It only has a crew of 6 to fly, run and operate, consisting of two pilots, two flight engineers, a navigator and a communications officer. The maximum payload is 551,200lb's or 275 (short) tons and the planes length is 275 ft with a wingspan of 290ft.

The plane stands nearly 60 feet high from its gear to the tip of its tail. The huge cargo door that opens on the front of the plane is 14 ft tall and 21 ft across, big enough to take an articulated truck or bigger. The cargo hold itself is 141 ft long.

The world record breaking maximum take-off weight of the An-225, ( this includes the weight of the plane itself ) is a massive 1 million, 322 thousand and 750lbs ! and needs 3,500 meters of runway to achieve take off on its 32 wheeled landing gear. This array of wheels and the actual close configuration that they are in are needed to support the entire weight of the plane and any heavy payload when its on the ground.

The An-225 is powered by 6 massive ZMKB Ivchenko Progress D-18 Turbofan Jet engines producing 303,600lbs or 151 tons of constant combined thrust, which will accelerate the plane to over hundred mph on the runway to get it airborne.

The plane can reach a maximum flight speed of 460 knots or 530mph with a cruising speed of 430 knots or 500mph. With a maximum cargo capacity filling the hold it has a range of 2,500 miles, this range is increased when the plane is not carrying any cargo to 9,570 miles. The cruise height or ceiling altitude at which the An-225 generally flies is 36,000 ft or nearly 7 miles high.

The An-225 is currently classed as the worlds largest and indeed heaviest aircraft with its gross maximum weight of 640 tons. In September 2001 the An-225 carried a world record cargo of 254 tons at an altitude of 6,500 feet whilst traveling at 474 mph

  • Chris John, the WBA world feather weight boxing champion from Indonesia Semarang (ANTARA News) - Chris John, the WBA world feather weight boxing champion from Indonesia, said he had been ready to meet his challenger, Rocky Juarez at MGM Grand Las Vegas, on Saturday local time (Sunday in Indonesia).

"There are no problems with my preparations and I am 100 percent ready to fight Juarez," he said when contacted by ANTARA News from here on Friday.

He said he still had two days left ahead of the bout and he would use it to conduct light exercises to maintain his fitness.

He said he would also use the time left for maintaining the stability of his weight. "My weight has already met the target for the class namely 57.1 kilograms," he said.

On Friday local time or Saturday in Indonesia the two boxers would be weighed again, after holding a joint press conference.

Before the second fight at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, the United States, on February 28, 2009 Chris John weighed 56.8 kilograms while Juarez weighed 56.9 kilograms. The standard weight for the featherweight meanwhile is 57.1 kilograms.
