the great "Random Harvest"

The film begins in the autumn of 1918 in the County Melbridge asylum. Smith (Colman), a shell-shock victims with amnesia and difficulty talking, walking is a vague and misty night outside the property. Confused by the noisy crowd choked the streets and celebrated the armistice that ducks in a snuff shop where he meets Paula (Garson). Leaving the shop, she follows him, worried that he does not. It quickly becomes protective of his strange new friend, and soon they fall in love, marry and themselves. Now is the time that they live happily ever after, but there is enough time remaining in the film you just know that it will not happen.

A common complaint in Hollywood is a favorite book, a film is that the book is much better. However, there are exceptions to the rule, if the film is better than the book. One of these exceptions is "Random Harvest" (1942), based on James Hilton's novel of the same name and with Ronald Colman, Greer Garson, Philip Dorn, and Susan Peters. Do not get me wrong - "Random Harvest" is a good book, but "Random Harvest" is a fantastic film. This is one of the few, perhaps the only film of the amnesia is really beautiful.
Greer Garson have seemed "random crop" on his favorite movies are all in. What Ronald Colman plays a soldier wounded World War I was not too hard: He fought for the British during the First World War, the Battle of Ypres, where he was wounded in knees and ankles (splitter), and was gassed. What is decorated for bravery and for several months after he was injured he was invalidated out of the army.

Hollywood was a great 1942 with the publication of many immediately or soon to be classic films like "Mrs. Miniver," "Yankee Doodle Dandy," "Holiday Inn," "Bambi," "Pride of the Yankees" and "King's Row." The largest of them was, of course, "Mrs. Miniver" and claimed, twelve Oscar nominations and six wins. "Random Harvest" was nominated for seven awards, including Best Actor in a leading role (Colman lost James Cagney for "Yankee Doodle"), Best Actress in a supporting role (Peters), Best Film. Ironically, "Random Harvest" lost the Best Writing, Screenplay Oscar James Hilton (and three others) for "Mrs. Miniver" script

You have to advice and will continue for each other.

Ensign after reading a prepared statement: "I came home to Nevada to declare the citizens of our state, something that has been in about a year ago. Last year I had an experience. I am against the vows of marriage. It is absolutely the worst thing I've ever made in my life. "

Honeydripper Soundtrack

American music is at a crossroads in 1950. The Big-band music from the prior generation was in the fading popularity with new ways to get their place. It is not rock and roll, blues, jazz or swing music, as the transitions between época'40s the big bands and rock and roll era of the'50s. This situation is in the soundtrack of John Sayles' new film, Honeydripper.

The album opens with two instrumentals - The Aces of Spade "Honeydripper Lounge", an ode to the swing clubs in Alabama of the movie, and "Tall Cotton", with its rich blues harmonica. StAX legendary soul singer, Dr. Mable John is, "no matter what they did, with a touch of vaudeville, while the Ministry a new sound to the Gospel" standing by the highway. "

The soundtrack is also original pieces, including Hank Williams' "Move on Over," Lil Green "Why not," Memphis Slim and "Bertha May" - a song played in an unforgettable heavenly inspired the funeral scene in the film.

The star of Honeydripper, Danny Glover, even on "Goin 'Down Slow," with Sonny Leyland on piano. It is difficult to say whether the recording was in 1950 or 2008 is its authenticity.

The album serves as a showcase, but a relatively unknown guitarist Gary Clark Jr., described by Texas Music Magazine as "probably the most talented Texas guitarist since a certain SRV." High praise indeed, but supported on the first page of "Good Rockin 'Tonight," "Blue Light Boogie," and edited the original "China Doll", co-author of Sayles and Mason Daring.

New era recordings and mix well, an exciting look at the last musical era, again with great effect with Sayles for Honeydripper.

Honeydripper Movie

John Sayles is a wonderful independent film, it is a wonderful film, independent of major studios, so that his films are always worth seeing how Honeydripper, although I wish they had not so predictable. Of course, most movies are predictable, but also signals, where it is easy.

It is traditional bar owner, played by a very hangdog Danny Glover, of the competition, because your company has a jukebox. The film deals with his last attempt to survive through the reserve pit Guitar Sam, however, that a child is hospitalized, but I will ... but it is a film that is almost impossible to "spoil" plot details.

Great music, great cinematography - beautiful train station, the end of the ... I was a little surprised at the "Redneck Sheriff Stacey Keach (you know what you gonna do), but there is a threat of sexual undertone to what he says about Mrs Glover Koch, which seems to be the phase with the rest of the film can only be me.

Top Chef Masters - Chef Hubert Keller

Chef Hubert Keller, owner of the Burger Bar restaurants in Las Vegas and St. Louis, is known for turning an ordinary burger into an extraordinary culinary affair. The "build your own" phenomenon has taken off across the country and within his book is a collection of burgers organized by type of meat, poultry, fish, vegetable and even sweets. Keller also shows how "DIY" burgers can easily be disassembled and reassembled to suit individual tastes.

Filled with recipes like Burger au Poivre, Mustard Seed Chicken Burger, BLT Turkey Club Burger, homemade sauces and ultra thick milkshakes, this book will have you craving a burger 'round the clock.

What we tested and whether the book's worth buying after the jump.

Takeaway tips: The book's introduction features tips for selecting meat, forming the perfect patty and cooking the juiciest burgers possible. One of Keller's most important rules -- "Never press down on the patties; it will only squeeze the juices out" -- is a common mistake many people make. Another crucial tip: "Never buy meat that is stuffed and compacted into plastic packaging. Once the meat is compacted, a light texture cannot be regained."

Quality of pictures: Towering creations, these succulent burgers topped with salsas, salads and roasted vegetables will secure a special place in your heart. Even the sides had us at "hello."

We tested: Burger au Poivre

Turning a classic French recipe into a burger, Keller instructs the reader to form the patty in the shape of a steak, creating an oblong burger. Each patty is topped with Dijon mustard, then a blend of green, white, pink and black peppercorns that complements the pungent taste of high-quality ground New York strip steak. A cognac, red wine and heavy cream sauce keeps every bite moist, and ripe tomatoes provide a final succulent flourish. This gourmet burger is so juicy and delicious it could even be considered sexy.

Worth the investment: Keller puts an emphasis on creativity and imagination to land the ultimate burger within your reach. After reading the section entitled "Building Better Burgers," you'll have a newfound appreciation for the meaty behemoth, and the take-away tips may well prove to be priceless.

Winging It: Going online to plan, book your own travel

Remember when you were in school and the first writing assignment each September was: "What did you do on your summer vacation?"

I can't answer that question yet, because my vacation doesn't start for three more weeks. But I thought it would be helpful for those planning to spend thousands of dollars for leisure or business travel to tell you about my experience researching and booking a two-week trip to Europe with my wife.

First, let me say to the travel agents whose good service and help I have appreciated for years, I didn't follow your advice and let you do it for me. I did all the planning and booking myself on my home computer.

I wasn't trying to avoid paying an agency for its work. If you find a good agent, he or she will probably be worth the money. I did my own planning and booking for several other reasons, starting with the fact that I actually enjoy doing the work required.

Do-it-yourself online is also the way most travelers plan trips, and I want to have the same experience with the process as you do.

Especially in searching for hotels in my price range, I like to look at multiple Web sites that offer reviews of travelers' experiences and rate hotels, usually on a 1-to-5 scale. The one I used most is www.tripadvisor.com; others I have found useful are www.hotels.com and www.booking.com.

Beyond that, doing the work myself enabled me to check, over weeks starting in January, what was happening to airfares and other travel costs. I checked individual airline Web sites as well as multicarrier online agencies - Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity and Vayama - each a few times, before settling down to use just one multi-airline site and two airline sites.

As I checked, about once every other day, I found fares could range widely on the same Web site, from about $800 to $1,400, for the same itinerary on different airlines.

Airline experts were predicting in January that transatlantic fares were likely to drop as the year went on because the recession had pushed down demand so significantly. We were still mulling over which airline and European gateways we would use, so we decided to wait a month or two to buy tickets.

I also set up a search at www.airfarewatchdog.com that promised to alert me when fares went down on a particular itinerary I specified. It did its job, telling me in early February that the cost had dropped about $100, or about 5 percent, for two tickets.

But old habits die hard, and the last time I planned a trip to Europe, four years ago, I waited too long and wound up paying more for tickets.

So the last week of February, I took the plunge and bought the tickets for just over $900 apiece. Then over the next month, the experts who forecast that fares would drop turned out to be right.

Airfarewatchdog continued to send me messages about lower costs, making me wonder if I should cancel the first reservation - for a $500 penalty - and start over.

Had I waited another month or two, I could have saved about $100 for each ticket, not enough to cancel and rebook. Had we been able to take the trip in late winter or spring, we could have saved several hundred dollars more as airlines began slashing fares to fill empty airplanes.

But I'm not unhappy with what I bought, because the lower fares for the summer travel we needed were for slightly different itineraries on different airlines. I was glad I got the precise ones I wanted.

The hotel search process is easier for me than looking for airlines and fares. For each city we will visit, I checked tripadvisor.com, which lists hotels by their popularity ratings by travelers from all over the world.

Scrolling down a list of hotels, you find good descriptions and room rates and whether a hotel is rated from one to five stars. I love smaller European hotels, and chose ones that were in the locations we wanted and received rave reviews from several previous guests.

Tripadvisor.com connects you to multiple online agency sites to actually book a room.

I waited until a few weeks ago to settle on transportation within Europe. We eventually decided to use both trains and a rental car, and compared the cost of buying Eurail passes or individual point-to-point tickets on www.raileurope.com.

For a rental car, raileurope.com has train passes that also include use of a car for a certain number of days. But for the car, I Googled "European rental cars" and found a wide choice of both U.S. and European companies with roughly similar rates.

I will tell you more about our European adventure when we return. Now, if the dollar vs. the euro exchange rate would just stabilize, I can figure out how much we can afford to spend on the wine.

7 Timely Tips for Buying Summer Airfares to Europe

by : Airfarewatchdog

1. Buying fares to Europe for spring and summer travel will be like picking stocks. The price will go up and down, you just have to pounce when you think the price is right. We're seeing international fares and availability at those fares fluctuate like the Dow 30.

2. It's nearly impossible to predict where airfares are heading, but it's unlikely they'll go back to where they were last year for summer travel. Fares are considerably lower on many routes than they were last year at this time for summer travel to Europe. If the economy continues to deteriorate, fares will too. We're not seeing the outrageous $1800 and $2000 RT with tax peak summer fares to Europe that we saw last year at this time. Far from it. You can fly almost any route for under $1000, depending on your travel dates.

3. Use a flexible date search on Orbitz or Cheaptickets or Hotwire. A fare from New York to Rome can be $500 with taxes on one set of dates in August, $800 on another set, and $1000 on still another.

4. Don't "blinder" yourself into one set destination. Fares from your local airports to Paris $1200 RT, but they're $500 to Dublin? Get to know Ryanair, the rail system, even cheap inter city buses in Europe and get to your preferred destination, be it Paris or whatever, that way.

5. Check fares every day. International fares typically only change once and day, and they do change, sometimes by hundreds of dollars up or down. Sign up for all the alert systems--Farecompare, Airfarewatchdog, Yapta, Orbitz, Travelocity, Kayak, Farecast... what's particularly good about Airfarewatchdog’s alerts is that we open the consumer's eyes to possibilities they might not have been considering (you were planning on going to Paris in July but it's $1200, and beyond your budget? What if we send you our list of fares from New York showing Venice in July for $400? Well, you might just change your plans).

6. Once you find a fare you like on an online travel agency (OTA), check the airline's site. Many international airlines don't share their best deals with the OTAs... you could save a bundle by buying direct. But that works in reverse sometimes too (an OTA might have a fare on Virgin Atlantic, for example, for hundreds less than Virgin is selling it for). Needless to say, Airfarewatchdog checks the airlines' sites and compares them with OTA's and list the lower fare if we find one.

7. Book with an airline that will give you a voucher refund, usually minus a "service fee," if the fare goes down between the time you buy and the time you fly, as long as nothing changes but the fare (no day, time, or flight changes). Many foreign flagged airlines are "you buy it you fly it".

travel bargain hunters

Common wisdom tells us that this is the year of mega-deal flight. All factors are present: Fuel prices kept the demand for places has decreased and the airlines are in financial need. The logic is that the flights to rain on us like a spring shower.

Surely, there are bargains to have. Except that it is the goal I had in mind. The last time she visited her favorite travel site, you may have found the prices to be fairly standard and decided to wait until that date, his legendary last-minute arrival.

You're not alone. "We see a lot of research, many people are waiting for the big deal ... But we have less inventory than last year, fewer flights, fewer seats, fewer opportunities for them in the last minute, unless it is incredibly flexible, "says Allison Wallace, spokesman for the Flight Center, the chain of travel agencies.

For today at least, with the notable exception of Mexico, Cuba and Las Vegas, the market is not flooded with offers. Many major airlines, including Air Canada, have been parking of aircraft, focusing on the reduction of the filling degree during the factory prices. Woudstra Bennett, Marketing Manager FlyForLess.ca considers supply and demand are in sync. This balance is difficult in a time of significant changes in the online travel market. Prices are now on the consumers through a growing number of channels. Your chance to secure that hard, for example, Europe or Asia, if you are prepared to study hard and fast.

The first stop for most people searching on the Internet can be a big online travel agencies. Sites like itravel2000.ca, Expedia.ca Travelocity.ca and its unprecedented power over collective bargaining in the industry is still king when it comes to a great value packages. Brian Simpson, General Manager of Travelocity.ca, says online travel agencies offer the big picture. "But what if you are only interested in the airplane? Online travel agencies, which draw most of their sentences of four Global Distribution Systems - Amadeus, Galileo, Worldspan and Saber - and can negotiate deals with airlines, but they are not the only places to go.

More and more airlines are questions in their own hands to us on their own sites and experimenting with new forms of life in a time of promotion codes directly to travelers. Currently, the method of choice is trusted e-mail (notification to the airlines' websites), but RSS feeds, Twitter and Facebook are just around the corner (Southwest Airlines has begun to offer Twitter).

"The airlines start to use the media to communicate directly with customers to participate in one-on-One Marketing to the warm and Fuzzi the brand," said Douglas Quinby an analyst at research company PhoCusWright, which studies in travel market in Canada.

This is an experimental phase coincided with the rise of meta-sites. Mavens as Airfarewatchdog.com, Travelzoo.ca, Tripadvisor.com CanuckAbroad.com drag and the network for you, raise a question not only the online travel agencies, but also the companies themselves remain. The emergence of new sources of travel information, offers more flexibility for Canadian travelers. As Mr. Quinby commentaries, one of the most striking features of the travel market in Canada so far "narrow momentum" created by the joint dominance of Air Canada and WestJet. This has the bargaining power of tour operators and shopping habits of consumers.

Websites such as Airfarewatchdog.com, bought by Expedia last year, travelers have expanded horizons. The site offers information about deviations from Canadian airports, and suggests that bargain flights from the border cities can connect with the main centers, with more flight options. CanuckAbroad.com also offers a lot of travel tips.

Flowers the farm twon

Does anyone use Facebook? I found this very small application in which a month ago called City Farm. One of my cousins in the Chicago area turn to me we were friends. I'm so addicted to this game lately, is simply crazy. You think I have better things to do with my time, but it's just pure, with my friends and planting things. My children, as well as their use, although peanut is too young to take a look at your entire account.

What to do? Well, it started when the animals are only decorative (though at times before it goes to milk cows and collect eggs from hens, etc), the cultures that may be ready in 4 hours to 4 days, if not non - harvest when the time is waste that can be gifts to friends in the trees or animals (now the flowers), which tend to its neighbors for the irrigation of their farms things, pull the weeds or raking leaves. I recently discovered that more money for their crop, if you hire another harvest (also thanks to my cousin, see above) and have Goofing in the chat room (aka the market), where I'm not renovating a farm, since the discovery.

We discuss all the possibilities (like the fact that we must be able to go to the beauty salon so that you do not seem all clones), and then try my character to do the Hokey Pokey and things just to see if all attention. Most times they do not. Either that, or ignored me because I'm so dang mad?

If I up this morning I had no idea that there are some changes in the game. Since I play flowers are produced in two weeks. The morning, I have 6 of them as a gift today. (Thank you all!) The son was so excited when he saw that all the changes that you can only help, but could not scream all the new animals and accessories that has been painted, while the last two walls of the kitchen.

I have money for a greenhouse in the game, so I had a stash of money splurge on a number of new toys. There will be a while until I'm high enough to still buy the glass, I have 3 levels to go yet. I bought a grill, water pump, door closures, and a pound so far and is planning the addition of some rivers and bridges, once I have all successfully reorganized.

I was on my farm is the conversion of the 6 Time, until I rebooted. Seems to happen more often than I like, but I think it is not so bad that I will not return. Now they can not log back on. I hope that the verdict does not last too long, I have to irrigate flowers and pumpkins for the harvest. 98% were prepared. Also, my yard is in total chaos and I do not like it that way.

Air conditioning helps, but it comes at a very high cost. Houston is using more electricity to Los Angeles. For this reason, some scientists thought that the only way around the city, where, in other words, the construction of a huge dome of Houston. Houston dome area is over 21 million square meters and is the largest with the largest roof in the world.

Houston wide dome panels is 15 meters wide. 147,000 panels to cover the city of Houston. Glass will not work for Houston Dome. It is so difficult that they will not hold. Houston Cupula a much lighter material. This can be seen from the German city of Bremen, a factory Vector Foil companies. Vector Foiltec invented with Texlon ETFE, the climatic envelope, more than twenty years and has successfully developed and promoted the use of this innovative technology in the world. This is the light and the polymer is the future of the glass.

This material, called ETFE is the only city with a full size dome as possible, even for a city like Houston. In only one percent of glass, ETFE is described as 99 percent of something. Without ETF Houston dome never become reality. It is so easy that 99 percent lighter than glass is a big change. Since it is not possible, living in Houston for the construction of the dome and the army of airships, to the construction.

Houston will take years, the construction of the Dome and billions of dollars. The dome was to protect a city from a Category 5 hurricane. The ETFEpanels-and space-frame steel structure, which is the key. ETFE holds winds of 180 miles per hour. This speed is higher than the strongest Category 5 hurricane. Houston Cupula idea is very interesting. But I agree with an idea. Houston is the rain? If not, it is possible for an ecosystem of this size without rain?

A productive idea for Dome

Over the weekend, the Chronicle ran this story on Harris County officials by an idea to the Astrodome in a planetarium and a science education and medical facility. It is really a good idea was that the proposed months ago. Given the proximity to the dome of the Texas Medical Center, a district / med center association in turn the Dome in the first medical and science education in the world makes little sense.

In addition, funding for a project of this nature will not be easy, especially in this economic climate. Given the potential benefits of Houston to a market leader in the field of medical and scientific training, we expect that the officials of this proposal is a fair shake. Certainly makes much more sense than the alternative proposal.

Common sense aside, the whole world must know that this new proposal could be scuttled by the financial obligations that are already in the framework of the Houston earlier bad decisions of public funding. This reminds us of the risks that poor use of resources ultimately has consequences. Could be a harsh irony, when the Houston-known reference is a victim of bad decisions.

'Billy Elliot' dances to the top of Broadway - TONY AWARDS

"Billy Elliot," inspiring a movie musical about the working class Yorkshire boy who dances from struggle and poverty, dominated by the 63rd annual Tony Awards, won 10 Tony Awards, including the coveted best musical Tony (WINNERS LIST).

"They opened their wallets and their hearts open," says composer Elton John, noting that the fair opened its doors in the middle of last fall's economic collapse. The show-off is expected in Chicago in 2010.

Another London import Banda a totally different, "God of Carnage, Yasmina Reza sardonic picture of middle-aged hell dumb civilian competition on the best game in the game Tony, but its star, James Gandolfini (the" Sopranos "FAME) lost to Geoffrey Rush ( "Exit the King") in the category of best actor.

"I want the audience in Manhattan," which usually quixotic Rush said, "to show that French existential tragicomedy rocks."

Marcia Gay Harden, one of the Co-Star Gandolfini in "God of Carnage", the Tony for best leading actress in a play. Best actress was in honor of Angela Lansbury, the actress loved her fifth Tony for her work in the revival of "Joyful Spirit". Another British import, "the Norman conquest won for best revival.

Gandolfini had to content with one of the best stretches of the night. 'For the recording, "he said, recalling a similar importance for the appearance," Shrek and I have no connection. "

Apart from the fact that "Shrek" is no longer much of the night. Tom Kitt, the author of "Next to Normal," the musical about the courageous struggle of a mother with mental illness, landed at the Tony Award for his score to a contemporary movement, dealing with topics such as seemingly uncommercial suicide, grief and electroshock therapy.

Alice Ripley, star of "Next to Normal," received her first Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. "I am surprised and honored by faith," he said, according to John F. Kennedy in the power of art. Ripley significantly reflects the Commission's confidence in a Broadway Thank you for a presidential visit for a few days before the ceremony.

There are three very young winners of the Best Actor in a Musical Tony-David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish, also known as the three Billy. This was the first time that the three winners who shared the deployment was a joint Tony. Most of his speech was charming in triplicate.

As widely expected, Diane Paul, "revival of the musical" Hair "was the best revival Tony, hits from" West Side Story "and" Guys and Dolls. "With emerging manufacturer of wood as the dinner-Jacketed head lice, rich hippies in the aisles, looking for the camera and lens with cavorting like Edie Falco.

This year Tony frequency energy style conscious to show as much music as possible, including the older musicals like "Mamma Mia" and shows, touring outside New York. Five stars from different companies of "Jersey Boys" (including Chicago) shares of a series.

Apparently many prestigious awards, including best book of a musical from the question of saving time for more songs and dance numbers, including the opening of an assembly such as Tony's biggest and most expensive Everto number to see the Tony Awards. That seemed fair.

Neil Patrick Harris reception was almost exciting, but the Tonys offer a variety of real celebrities, including Dolly Parton will appear with the occupation of the new musical about to see "9 to 5". The inimitable Liza Minnelli is one of the few surprise winners, beat the favorite Will Ferrell for best theatrical event.

Calvin Borel Guarantees Belmont

Even NBA players secure victory in New York. And who is the Knicks. Major League Baseball players are not planning a victory in the hallowed halls of the new, holy, the state of the art Yankee Stadium. Guaranteeing a victory against the Giants football and probably more than someone who wants to piece of me? "

However, it is our man Calvin Borel, to lose his Belmont Stakes mount me the bird after a workout Monday morning at Churchill Downs, said: "We will win. No questions asked." In addition, the similar guarantee in the Preakness aboard another horse for almost three weeks. Although he and Rachel Alexendra at the level of certainty that the leaves are not trying to hit a double guarantee. Especially in New York.

However, it is our man Calvin Borel. Selfish? Fat? Bragging? Naive? Who ...? Nope. Calvin Borel. Announcements of material for the other driver? Probably not. Riders at this level know that they have much to occupy their time and energy in the approximately two and a half minutes it takes for the Belmont Stakes. There is no room for mischief aboard horses 1000 lbs with 40 miles per hour.

It is not our man Calvin Borel. He is now two times winner of the Kentucky Derby jockey who tries to get the first driver in history to win the Triple Crown in the various horses. Calvin Borel are always ready to do something to try him alongside the likes Eddie Arcaro, Bill Shoemaker Woody Stephens, D. Wayne Lukas and the businesses in the Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing and record books.

As if in the small Cajun town of St. Martinville, southern Louisiana, with a ninth grade education and become a white-tie dinner at the White House with President Bush and the Queen of England was not enough (I've heard he accidentally referred to Prince Charles Street Sense, but a jockey agent who told me), which consists of a guaranteed victory in the Belmont Stakes in my bird.

Who does such a thing and not allienate the world? Our man Calvin Borel. And not just once, horrified at the head, chin, or a nod in disapproval. Is it possible to guarantee with humility? I do not know, but if someone can just Calvin.

To add perspective to your appointment: "I loved the way it happened today," Borel said after the game. "He was bouncing off the track if you have done. That is what I like about him. He is so happy."

I bet if mine could talk about birds, she said the same about Calvin.
______

The Bird Mine worked half mile in 50 seconds flat, but he worked the final eighth of a mile in a swift 11.60 then rode five Furlong (5/8ths of a mile) in 1:02.2. Needless to say, Coach Chip Woolley reported that very satisfied. It appears that the final test firing mechanism of the evening was a success.

This is my bird boarding a flight from Louisville, Kentucky, New York on Wednesday.

Belmont manufacture chocolates Challenge finished his final preparation for the Derby also on Monday morning at Belmont Park for trainer Jerry Holle villages. He worked four Furlong in 50.25 to cover the distance under a pilot restraint measure Lindsey Molina. He rode in 1:03.59. Sweet chocolate in second place in the Santa Anita Derby Pioneerof after the Nile and the fifth in the Kentucky Derby in his last two starts.

The Test of Champions-Belmont Stakes

The Belmont Stakes is known as "The Test of Champions." Moniker is mainly due to the long, 1-1/2 mile Belmont, but a career in the racing calendar also makes it a test of endurance and stamina.

The Kentucky Derby is traditionally on the first Saturday in May. The Preakness two weeks later. After three weeks between the second and the third part of the Triple Crown. This series of three grueling races in just five weeks after the spring is also an attempt to get to the races, including the Florida Derby, Louisiana Derby, Santa Anita Derby, Wood Memorial, and others. And these are just the latest Preps, usually two, three or four races before that, in most prior to the Triple Crown campaign.

Legendary trainer Charlie Whittingham once said thoroughbreds are like strawberries - can go wrong, that the device is about you. So you can imagine how special talent and must be a horse to survive only on the Triple Crown with 12 Furlong Belmont.

A closer look at the candidates in the race for the Saturday shows this point. Shortly before the race and my favorite Bird D. Wayne Lukas-trained Flying private programs have started in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. The animal will give me their fifth year after the launch to prepare for the Derby in the Sub-Major League oval Sunland Park near El Paso, Texas. Iron Horse Private Flying is his ninth year and is only Belmont starters have competed in every month of 2009.

Sweet chocolate, Dunkirk, Mr material and the hot summer of birds in the Derby but skipped the Preakness. Luv government began in the Preakness but lost the Derby. A man of love and escape miners have their first appearances in a career Triple Crown.

In the last ten Runnings Belmont only Afleet Alex in 2005 and the views of the year 2001, the Belmont after the start in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. The last two winners, Da 'Tara in the past year and the filly Rags to riches in 2007 were newcomers to the Triple Crown.

Today at Belmont Park race track

Elmont, N.Y. - We have seen this before. The 12-Furlong Belmont Park, the longest, widest track in the world, is unlike any other. Experience counts. Discount to its importance in Belmont Park are doomed to lose.

"I go with him to drive, so confident. That is why winning the race because riding with confidence," said Calvin Borel in the days before the Saturday of the 141st Belmont Stakes.

Trust is an admirable quality. Excess is the Mother of the failure.

Borel mine ensures that attract birds and Belmont bettors responded by sending the gelding, 50-1, when he won the Derby five weeks, the door 6-5 in the final leg of the Triple Crown under a driver's attempt, the first to sweep the series in two horses.

Borel, in fact, bird mine went with absolute confidence and the gelding responded with a valiant effort. Borel I needed was a map.

An early transition to Belmont Park is almost always fatal.

Kent Desormeaux who rode the birds in the summer to an upset victory at 141 Belmont, lesson learned that in 1998, when a similar move on the issue of a mine, which left Real Quiet birds one step behind the Triple Crown and the Victory Gallop the winner circle. Stewart Elliott, Smarty Jones, referred to early in the 2004 Belmont, the Triple Crown left in the half-mile pole, when he little to keep Birdstone, Mr. Belmont, the winner of this year, as well as favorite hits.

Borel is very familiar with Churchill Downs, where his bold, rail-skimming ride in the Derby gelding has won the district and finally conquered the hearts of the nation. Pimlico, where the brilliant filly Raquel Alexandra Borel rode to victory in the Preakness at the expense of me that bird, the swift closing runner-up in Baltimore, is the standard problem of the one lane miles, more than Churchill, but essentially the same configuration.

Belmont Park, New York is different. It rewards and punishes the arrogance prepared.

Borel spent the whole week in New York, without mounting a race before the Belmont on Saturday, the 11th the map, a mistake for him and my birds pay a high price. The driver appeared on Late Night with David Letterman, visited the New York Stock Exchange and the Empire State Building, has some sights, maybe a little shopping. But his representatives are not aimed at the Belmont, where he assembled Borel some horses in the past and never won a race.

Confidence alone will not work at Belmont Park are in the best horse, with a clear trip enjoyed Borel is not enough to miscalculation born of unfamiliarity with this unique course.

"I do not think [Bird mine] can lose," said Desormeaux, who has a real cost, and a quiet place in history as an accessory in the New York jockey colony. "But things happen like they did. It is quite different, the soil here in Belmont. They call him Big Sandy for nothing."

Last early, as expected, mine to get horses on the birds back stretch six Furlong has not yet been executed, will be an unexpectedly strong pace of Dunkirk and flew in the back. Borel won the Derby asked to create a movement that still panting Pegasus. Even the immortal Secretariat Ron Turcotte reserved on the point that the mine had started to his birds. Office open 31 Length and a course record at Belmont has been threatened since 1973.

A period of horses belonging to the strike the quarter with a pole in the middle are almost inevitably move towards Belmont defeat and mines, the birds had no answer to a crucial meeting of the summer birds, the ninth with a 10 half a mile run to leave and I was already sent early risers in search of leaders. The winner of the Derby was so little in the sixteenth to the last mile is not before the pacemaker, which ended with the decision to be taken into account, and the birds that pass over the final meters and finished second.

Two Bodies Found By Air France Crash Recovery Teams

Officials have confirmed remains and wreckage have been located in the crash of Air France Flight 447, the BBC has confirmed.

Information is currently scarce regarding all details of the find, but at a news conference, a spokesperson was quoted as saying:

“We confirm the recovery from the water debris and bodies from the Air France plane. We can’t give more information without confirming what we have.”

Earlier today, airline investigators reported that 24 automated error messages had been sent prior to the aircraft’s disappearance, including one indicating that the plane’s autopilot had “disengaged.”

All 228 passengers and crew members are believed to have perished on the flight.

The remains of the two male passengers were taken from the water off Brazil's northern coast at 9.10am and 11.30am local time after a passing ship raised the alert. Experts on human remains are on their way to the region to examine the find.

All 228 passengers and crew on board flight 447 are believed to have been killed when the plane disappeared in the early hours of last Monday morning, about four hours after taking off from Rio de Janeiro en route to Paris.

Speaking at a news conference in the city of Recife yesterday, Brazilian Air Force spokesman, Jorge Amaral, confirmed the discovery of the bodies.

He later added that objects linked to passengers known to be on the flight had also been found, including a suitcase with a plane ticket and a backpack with a computer inside.

"It was confirmed with Air France that the ticket number corresponds to a passenger on the flight," said Amaral.

A blue seat was also found, and Air France is checking the serial number to see whether it came from the flight.

The remains were picked up 500 miles north-east of the islands of Fernando de Noronha, off Brazil's northern coast, not far from where the last signal from the plane was received.

They are the first items found which can be definitely linked to the doomed flight, after disappointment midweek when airline seats and chunks of metal floating in what was thought to be the radius crash site turned out to be unrelated.

The cause of the accident remains unresolved, but investigators yesterday revealed that the Airbus A330 sent out 24 error messages during the final minutes of the flight. Paul-Louis Arslanian, head of the French agency leading the investigation, said the messages - transmitted automatically - are being analysed by experts.

He added that signals sent by the plane before it disappeared show its autopilot was not on, but that it was impossible to say at this stage whether it had been switched off deliberately by the pilots or had stopped working as it received conflicting airspeed readings.

Plane manufacturer Airbus says the investigation found the flight received inconsistent readings from different instruments as it struggled in a massive thunderstorm.

Investigator Alain Bouillard said it was vital to locate a beacon called a "pinger" that should be attached to the cockpit voice and data recorders, now presumed to be deep in the Atlantic, but he added there was "no guarantee" it would still be attached to the recorder.

Investigators are trying to determine the location of the debris in the ocean based on the height and speed of the plane when the last message was received. Currents could also have scattered debris far along the ocean floor.

Laurent Kerleguer, an engineer working with the investigation team, said the zone seen as the most likely site of the debris was 15,112ft at its deepest point.

Water salinity and temperature can affect the distance that the beacon's signal can travel.

A French submarine has also joined the search. It has sonar equipment which could help locate the flight data recorders "black box" which has vital clues about the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The Pirate Shack: June 5th - 7th - Blackbeard Pirate Festival

Just shy of 300 yearsago a most colorful and legendary saga unfolded off the coast of Virginia; a battle to the death that would seal the fate of one of history’s most fabled villains; the notorious pirate Blackbeard.

In 1718, after a short lived attempt at marriage and a life on the straight and narrow, Edward Teach (AKA Blackbeard http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackbeard) was no longer able to deny the allure of piracy on the open seas. His return to the life of a swashbuckler had him terrorizing cargo ships along the east coast and Chesapeake Bay, which made the beach at Ocracoke Inlet the perfect place to host a gathering of the world’s most infamous pirates. Word of the festival reaches Virginia Governor Spotswood, and believing that something must be done to end Blackbeard’s reign, he assigns to Lieutenant Robert Maynard the task of capturing or killing Blackbeard. The battle that ensued at sea between Teach and Maynard was vicious and bloody, and would ultimately end in the dread pirate’s untimely demise.

On June 5, 2009 the 10th Annual Blackbeard Pirate Festival comes to the Hampton, Virginia waterfront. The event schedule for this family event is packed with visiting tall ships, re-enactments from impromptu street skirmishes to full-scale battles in the Hampton harbor, music, food and more! Visit http://www.blackbeardpiratefestival.com for more information on this fun and exciting return to some of Virginia’s most thrilling history… if you dare!

Koko taylor - often misspelled Coco Taylor

Blues legend Koko Taylor (often misspelled Coco Taylor) passed away today at the age of 80. The chicago blues woman was recovering from gastrointestinal surgery. A spokesman from Alligator Records spoke to the Chicago Tribune:
National treasure and blues legend Koko Taylor passed away Wednesday of complications due to recent surgery. The 80-year-old singer underwent a procedure to correct a gastronomical bleed on May 19 in Chicago, and had been expected to make a full and healthy recovery, according to a news post (dated May 28) on her official website.

Just weeks earlier, on May 7, Koko Taylor performed her iconic hit 'Wang Dang Doodle' at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis, where she accepted the award for Traditional Blues Female Artist of the Year. She was honored to receive the award but it wasn't her first: Taylor holds the record for the artist with the most number of Blues Music Awards. She has 29 to her name, plus numerous other accolades including a Grammy and a NEA National Heritage Fellowship Award.

Taylor was known as "Queen of the Chicago Blues," although "Koko" was also a nickname bestowed on her because of her chocolate obsession (her real name is Cora Taylor.) She was born in Memphis, and raised on gospel music before moving to Chicago, where Willie Dixon eventually landed her a recording contract with Chess Records. In 1965, one year after her debut, she hit pay-dirt with 'Wang Dang Doodle' and the rest, as they say, is history. And history will certainly hold a place for Koko Taylor's landmark 45-year career with its countless contributions to American blues

Micheal Bastian

Once, a trawl through a Michael Bastian collection would take an eon -there was so much to consider. His first show provided an interesting opportunity to see the designer's own distillation of those multiple options. Actually, it wasn't really a show, more a tight edit of 25 looks based around Bastian's latest American archetype. He had in mind Sam Elliott and Parker Stevenson from a 1976 movie called "The Lifeguard" (male hotties from the seventies being something of a specialty). That translated to plenty of the sporty shorts (bathing suits, even) you'd associate with guys like that. At the other end of the spectrum, Bastian offered his signature freewheeling take on eveningwear : shawl-collared pink jacket, blue tux shirt, pale gray pinstriped pants. And in between, standouts included a zippered Fair Isle cardigan, a suede safari jacket, and another jacket in a crisp white seersucker paired with pink cutoffs. That's the kind of easy casual/formal combo at which Michael Bastian excels (the kind that may see him filling Ralph Lauren's shoes somewhere down the line). Still, one wondered whether the edit around his elected theme was perhaps a little too tight to fully broadcast his talent to anyone who hasn't yet been converted. But for novices, there were always all those racks of clothes to drift through deliriously.

Obama’s Cairo speech

President Barack Obama addressed the Dar-es-Islam in a speech at Cairo University. The Obama Cairo speech was one part tough love for Muslims, one part cringing apology, and one part Utopian vision wrapped up in historical ignorance.
Barack Obama started by doing something he eschewed during the campaign. "Part of this conviction is rooted in my own experience. I am a Christian, but my father came from a Kenyan family that includes generations of Muslims. As a boy, I spent several years in Indonesia and heard the call of the azaan at the break of dawn and the fall of dusk. As a young man, I worked in Chicago communities where many found dignity and peace in their Muslim faith. " At one point he even reminded people of his full name, "Barack Hussein Obama", which was something people were punished for when Obama was running for President.
After expounding on the history of America and Islam, President Obama came down to issues.

On "violent extremism" Obama clung to the meme of "Afghanistan War good/Iraq War bad." Obama said, "Unlike Afghanistan, Iraq was a war of choice that provoked strong differences in my country and around the world. Although I believe that the Iraqi people are ultimately better off without the tyranny of Saddam Hussein, I also believe that events in Iraq have reminded America of the need to use diplomacy and build international consensus to resolve our problems whenever possible."

This does not make sense. Iraq was not a "war of choice." Saddam Hussein, for a variety of reasons (not just on WMDs, which everyone believed Hussein had and which he was certainly pursuing) had made himself intolerable. And Saddam was certainly not responding to diplomacy; that was the main reason the coalition forces marched.

Obama also made his first cringing apology. "The fear and anger that it provoked was understandable, but in some cases, it led us to act contrary to our ideals." Well, no we did not. That is a flat out lie and a pander not only to liberal opponents of the war on terror but to the Muslim extremists Obama says he abhors.

Nintendo - Super Mario Galaxy 2

Nintendo saved their biggest announcement for last at this morning's E3 press conference, unveiling the first full sequel to a 3D Mario game on the same system: Mario Galaxy 2.From the trailer on show, it appears to be the same deal as the first game. Planetoids you run around, 3D puzzles, unique mechanics on various levels, flying pirate ships and, yes, bee suits. The graphics have seen a slight improvement from the looks of things, with nicer grass, but yeah, expect more Mario Galaxy. Just newer. It's planned for release sometime in 2010. Sadly, it won't be playable on the showroom floor this week.

I don't think you guys understand how much I flipped out in the press conference this morning when Nintendo announced Super Mario Galaxy 2. Seriously, Nick Chester actually had to look over and tell me to calm down since I was breathing really hard and uttering the words "um" and "amazing" over and over again not quite under my breath (inside scoop: it was actually loud enough to annoy everyone in the three rows in front and behind me).

There really aren't any words to describe how much I love the original Super Mario Galaxy. It is easily ranked my #1 platformer of all time. Yup, even higher than my precious Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. As people that listen to RetroforceGO! know, I fall in love with good level design, and Super Mario Galaxy has some of the best ever seen in a videogame.

Lucky for us all, Super Mario Galaxy 2 seems to offer much more of the same splendid design and addictive gameplay the first game had to offer.

Check out the press conference trailer after the jump for some stunning footage and prepare to be amazed. Sure, it looks a lot like the original, but that chocolate cake I just had last night looked just like the chocolate cake I had last week, BUT THEY WERE BOTH STILL DELICIOUS! This sent-from-Miyamoto-heaven sequel also features Yoshi in some of the most smile-inducing gameplay sequences you will ever see. Try not to giggle when he and Mario are flying through space together.

Enjoy watching the trailer over and over again and trying your darndest to wait the excruciatingly long time until Super Mario Galaxy 2 is released for the Wii in 2010. This is the Game of the Show for me so far.
