Schelereth was the Double-A Mobile’s top pick for the year 2008 during the draft. Schlereth has joined the Diamondbacks relief pitchers dugout. Daniel said that he feels happy, surprised, exited and blessed all at once.
ESPN football analyst Mark Schlereth, the winner of three Super Bowl rings, might be making Major League Baseball history within the next few days. That's if his son Daniel Schlereth pitches for the Arizona Diamondbacks. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, if the younger Schlereth, a lefty, pitches for the D'backs, he and his father will become the sixth father-son combination to either played in the NFL or the MLB. If he pitches, it is expected to be in relief. Schlereth was the 26th overall pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks last June. In the Double-A ball this season, Schlereth has three saves with a 1.42 ERA. He also has 21 strikeouts in 19 innings.

The elder Schlereth, a lineman, won two Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos and one with the Washington Redskins. The other tandems include the likes of Baseball Hall of Famers Lou Brock and Yogi Berra. Here are the other father-son tandems:

Schlereth's first game in an Arizona uniform was Friday. He did not play in the team's loss. The D'backs play the Atlanta Braves this weekend. Sports Arizona reports that Mark Schlereth was Twittering at the game Friday. Among the Tweets, "Daniel is getting warm in the pen and i’m about sick! nervous daddy!"

Obama to Appoint Republican Rep. John McHugh as Secretary of Army

White House sources tell ABC News that President Obama will nominate New York Republican Congressman John McHugh as Secretary of the Army.

Now in his ninth term, McHugh is the ranking Republican member of the House Armed Services Committee. He is also a senior member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and previously served on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

McHugh will become the fourth Republican to join a high ranking position within the administration. The group now includes Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, and Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, who will serve as ambassador to China.

The president will make the announcement at 11:55 a.m.

New York will be home to another special House election in a potentially competitive district for the second time this year.

McHugh represents New York’s 23rd congressional district upstate in the North Country. He was first elected to the House in 1992.

He won with 63 percent of the vote in 2006 and 65 percent of the vote in 2008.

But it is potentially a more competitive district than the support McHugh received as the incumbent might suggest.

One estimate (by swingstateproject.com) of the presidential vote in NY-23 in 2008 shows Obama beat McCain in the district by five points (52 percent to 47 percent).

Four years earlier, George Bush won the district by four points (51 percent - 47 percent).

Once we have a sense of the recruiting prospects for both parties and the resources the national committees plan to dedicate to the race, we’ll see if a competitive special will take shape.

It is also unclear if this congressional district will outlast the next redistricting process when New York’s congressional delegation is expected to shrink in size.

At the very least, President Obama has once again picked off a Republican to join his team and created an opportunity for the Democrats.

Air France flight af447 crash

Reading about the Air France crash wherein none were thought to have survived is actually making me quite sad.

I clock in a whole lot of flying time even if I’m supposed to be pretty stationary and I don’t want to be paranoid but I’m not as devil may care as I used to be when I get on a plane, what with this kind of news and the H1N1 virus.

Here is the breakdown of the passenger list of nationalities, which actually includes one Filipino.

Air France Crash 2009, Air France jet crashes and 228 feared dead. An Air France jet carrying 228 people from Rio de Janeiro to Paris is believed to have crashed into the Atlantic on Monday after suffering an electrical failure in a fierce storm.

It is confirmed that all 228 people were killed, it would mark the worst loss of life in Air France's history and civil aviation's worst accidental disaster for more than a decade.

Air France said that on air france flight 447 among 216 passengers, there are 126 men, 82 women, seven children and a baby. The crew was made up of 12 members, including nice cabin crew. In Rio, Air France spokesman Jorge Asuncao said there were 80 Brazilian passengers, 73 French, 18 Germans, nine Italians, six Americans, five Chinese,, four Hungarians, two Spanish, two British, two Moroccans and two Irish.

"The most likely thing is that the plane was hit by lightning. The plane was in a stormy area with strong turbulence, which provoked problems," said Francois Brousse, Air France's director of communications.

Airbus said the A330 has a good safety record- there have never been fatalities on a commercial flight - but in 1994 one crashed during a test flight in southern France, killing seven people on board.
