Urban Meyer surprised college football Saturday in his resignation as coach in Florida for five seasons and two national titles, due to health problems came to light when the chest pain caused SEC championship game.
The 45-year-old Meyer will coach his last game in the Sugar Bowl against Cincinnati on New Year's Day.
He leaves No. 5 Florida to record a 56-10 32-8, a mark in the league and a school-record 22 consecutive wins, were captured by Alabama in the title game Southeastern Conference December 5 cover.
"I gave my heart and soul of college football training and mentoring for young people in the past 24 years and have most of my waking moments of the past five years, dedicated to the Gator Country football program," said Meyer said in a statement. "I ignore my health for many years, but recent events have forced me to reassess the priorities of my faith and family.
With Meyer's departure leaves a program that has become one of the jewels of college football and at a time that is considered one of the best coaches in the country.
It has scheduled a press conference in New Orleans on Sunday afternoon.
